Doug and I disagree a lot. We have a happy marriage, honestly. We just don't see eye to eye on most things. Case in point:
I bought Cal some alphabet letters for the fridge. I was finishing up dinner preparations while Doug and Cal were putting the letters in order and enjoying singing the ABC's over and over. At one point, the Early Childhood Education background got the best of me and I interjected that it is best to clearly pronounce each letter so Cal doesn't learn the letters wrong. (I had already corrected him earlier in the month to sing the "lmnop" part much slower, so Cal could hear what letters he was saying. And we all know Smoots do not like to be corrected...but I went ahead with alphabet correction number 2.)
"You know, you should really say Double U. It is kind of coming out 'dubba u' when you sing it. "
"Double U? Are you serious? You have been teaching it wrong all these years! It is 'dubba u.'" (Laughter from Doug)
"What! Honey, I am a kindergarten/preschool teacher. I specialize in the alphabet. It is double u. DOUBLE U."
"Do you want to make a bet?"
"Heck yeah!" (Every bet at our house is a 15 minute back rub bet. Lewis marriage tradition.)
"K, I'll call Lauren; she is an English major she will know."
I thoroughly enjoyed my back rub! Of course only after checking several sources!
(Doug's sad excuse has something to do with George "Dubba U" Bush and J-dub (his Dad's nick name for John W. Lewis.)

HAHA That one really makes me laugh annie! Nice to know other couples disagree, Kevin and I are the same. We have bets about the smallest insignificat things!
I like disagreements, they give marriage flavor. It helps that I'm ALWAYS right too. :)
Lol! and congratulations to Ben on his engagement! that's so exciting,.. I can't say I wasn't hoping he'd run into my sister and they'd hit it off at BYU, but Ben's probably been miles from BYU for a while now so I guess there never was really any hope for it anyway,.. haha. Anyway,.. that's funny ! and congrats Ben!
haha, LOVED this post. These are the types of conversations we miss out on by not living close to you guys!! :)
That's hilarious! Thanks for sharing. :)
Wow. I didn't even know your were prego! Congrats. Lots of little boys coming your way!
Oh my goodness, James and I are laughing so hard because that's such an "Annie-Doug" argument and we miss it!!! This is so a dinner night conversation:) Oh how we miss you guys!
Love ya!
That is so funny; it reminds me of the time Matt and I argued about the words to that Christmas song "Mele Kalikimaka." He (and Corey too, actually) thought it was "Mele Kalikimaka is 'a wise way'..." when Merilana and I both knew (thanks to Mrs. Randall and the Pioneer Elementary choir programs) that it's "Hawaii's way..." We never let them live it down, and they sometimes still lamely insist that we were wrong.
that's funny,.. because everybody knows that Melekelikimaka is "the right way",... haha. I guess you make up your own wrong words right?
I had to laugh out loud on this one. Sounds like some of the bets we've had at our house in the past. The most recent being opossum. Jared laughed and said I can't believe you think there's an o. Needless to say, I was the last one laughing. (In his defense, it is commonly called possum. ) :)
This is the FUNNIEST story! I can totally imagine how this conversation went down. You two are quite the pair! We're excited to see you in a couple of weeks!
