The Sun

After some rainy days...

we are happy to see (and feel) the sun.

(And don't worry that I am teaching my son to write his A's backwards. Apparently I am not as good as I thought writing upsidedown. )

Crying in the Closet

I guess you could call me a closet reader. Around midnight last night I could have been found laying on the floor in our closet finishing up "Mama Day." Oh, and I was crying! Doug wanted to go to bed around 10:30 and I was looking for a place not to be found (by any boogie men, etc). In my defense: I am usually a very 'brave' person, but I had just read a little bit of what you might call a scary part (walking in the woods alone during the night, conversing with dead ancestors, worms eating away the insides of a women's body...) Anyway, I wasn't up to going down stairs and facing the big open windows by my lonesome.

The book was great- Anna's personal notes from her Shakespeare Literature class she had written all over the sides made it even better. It was a modern day, African American twist of 'The Tempest'. I definetly recommed it.

After having a good cry, I hurried to bed and snuggled up to the totally passed out Dougie. It looks like I will be doing that same thing tonight (without the crying) since I am totally energized from a FABULOUS cooking group tonight and the little med student is already been tucked in bed for some time. (Now I guess in his defense I will say he has taken up the new habit of rising at 3:30 AM this week...he promises the 'early to bed, WAY too early to rise' thing will simmer down next week after a grueling round of tests.)

I am off to research "removing wallpaper that has been painted over." Any suggestions are always welcome.

Callin's Crush

It's happened and I couldn't be happier. Cal and I stopped by the mailbox today at the end of our jog. (I miss the old fashion kind that are at the end of your walk way...now I have to walk a whole 1 minute to get the mail.) Callin got a special valentines from his beloved Audrey in the mail. I knew things were really getting serious between them when last week, we walked into church and Callin starts saying "Daw-dee" and waving long before I had even spotted her.

(note: still has eye bruises, but they are improving!)

After carrying her around while I made dinner and then watching a movie with her (picture) I convinced him to put her on the fridge next two his cute cousins. (Whom he also really likes, but I think knows that somehow it would never work between them. Genetic issues of course.) He spent the next several hours remembering to wave and say "Hi Daw-dee" everytime he walked by the kitchen.

Buddies

Not surprising that Doug and I, mostly Doug, would have a child that is very social. (And by the 'mostly Doug' I mean that if it weren't for having to study so often, he would have a get together of some kind every night!) Callin really does love his buddies. To start off the season of crushes, hearts, sugar cookies and love...Callin wants to say how much he enjoys all his buddies. They have some good times together.

During the missionaries message last night, Cal got off my lap and ran over to the couch to sit in between them. They couldn't leave with out reading him some of his books and playing a little catch.

I love his lips- I guess it helps when you are working really hard. (Play dough is courtesy of Grandma Lewis' valentines package. He can't help but have a little taste of it now and then.)

One of the joys of teaching preschool, is the lovely home decor I often have hanging. This is their interpretation of 'Life under the ocean.' Doesn't it make you want to go and paint with water colors!

And we found this new addition for the house in Mozambique. Which I also really love!

Helping Mommy

I may have waited a little long to do this, but I finally let Callin be my cookie helper. He was thrilled from start to finish and several times since has got out the mixing bowl from the cupboard and says, "Cee-cee" for cookie.
